2010 NFL Draft: Jacksonville Jaguars Team Needs

Jack Del Rio

The Jags were unexpectedly feisty in 2009, despite rampant inconsistency.

For example, a week after thrashing the Titans by 20, they were absolutely crushed by a mediocre Seahawks team 41-0.

This continued throughout the season, and the people of Jacksonville weren’t exactly impressed.

The Jags sold out just one home game last season, and are going to have to start winning back fan interest if they don’t want to have to relocate sometime in the near future.

This is a huge priority off the field, but what to the Jaguars need on the field heading into 2010?

Offense

Biggest Needs: C, RG, WR, P

Maurice Jones-Drew has turned into one of the league’s most prolific running backs, and Jacksonville needs to get him some help up front.

None of the needs on offense appear destined to be filled using the team’s first round pick (no. 10 overall), meaning prospects for these positions start in the third round, where the Jaguars have their next selection.

John Jerry is a nice prospect at guard coming out of Ole Miss, but there’s a good chance he’ll be snapped up before the 10th pick in the third round comes around.

As for wide receiver, Mike Sims-Walker emerged last season as a solid potential no. 1 target, but with Torry Holt not working out (and now in New England), there’s a hole to fill.

Texas standout Jordan Shipley will be available in the middle rounds, bust most see him as a slot-type receiver, and the Jags should be in the market for a no. 2 type guy.

Little-known Andre Roberts (out of The Citadel) is a rising talent, and Marcus Easley from UConn had great workout numbers (4.46 40-yard-dash and 10’3″ broad jump) and appears to have the physical tools to become a late-round steal.Tim Tebow Jaguars

Could they also roll the dice at some point and snag Jacksonville-native Tim Tebow?

Defense

Biggest Needs: DE, S, CB, DT Depth, LB

The Jaguars picked up just 14 sacks this year, and have signed former Packers DE Aaron Kampman already this offseason.

Many believe that defensive end is where they’ll be going with their first-rounder, which may mean Georgia Tech’s Derrick Morgan or South Florida’s Jason Pierre-Paul will be donning a Jags’ uniform next season.

The team drafted Reggie Nelson a few years back in hopes that he would become the free safety of the future, but he’s been a massive disappointment thus far.

Morgan Burnett, out of Georgia Tech, is a safety prospect held in high regard by many teams, and would slide in nicely for Jacksonville. Florida’s Major Wright is also a possibility here, and each player likely can be had in the third round.

Rashean Mathis is a great corner, but he doesn’t have much help on the other side of the field.

Luckily, this is one of the deepest CB drafts in quite some time, and there is a bevy of talent available in every round.

Dominique Franks, Brandon Ghee, A.J. Jefferson, and Amari Spievey are just a few of the middle-round cornerbacks that Jacksonville could be enticed to take a chance on.

Defense should be the main priority for the Jaguars heading into the draft.

They certainly have their work cut out for them if they intend to compete with the Colts, Titans, and Texans in the tough AFC South in 2010.

One thing I’ve noticed is that there are plenty of myths regarding the banking companies intentions if talking about property foreclosures. One fable in particular would be the fact the bank desires your house. The lending company wants your hard earned money, not your property. They want the bucks they lent you with interest. Averting the bank will only draw a new foreclosed final result. Thanks for your post.
