2010 NFL Picks: Week 10 Writer Picks

NFL Soup’s 2010 NFL Writer Picks are back for the 10th week in a row as we get closer and closer to crowning one of our writers as the champ for weekly NFL picks. What makes things even more interesting with each passing week, is the musical chairs going on, with seemingly a new winner (or leader) every week.
But not this week. Taylor Smith took his first win in week 8, and keeps on churning the right calls out, as evidenced by his amazing 11-2 mark in week 9, giving him his second win in a row. Keet Bailey was very impressive, as well, as he finished right behind Smith with a very solid 10-3 mark, while Kevin Roberts and Chris Powell fell in line with decent 9-4 and 8-5 records on the week.
The only sad fact was that no one called the Cleveland Browns’ upset over the New England Patriots.
Dallas Cowboys Book Give Away Contest: Beat the Experts!
Think you know NFL games better than the writers at NFL Soup? Email your picks for week 10 to nflsoup@gmail.com, and if you tie or beat our top finisher for the week, you get a copy of America’s Team: The Official History of the Dallas Cowboys.
Even if you’re not a Cowboys fan, this is a pretty awesome book and prize. Just mail in with your picks BEFORE the start of the Thursday game between the Atlanta Falcons and Baltimore Ravens, and you will qualify for the contest. Anyone entering following the deadline of 8:20 pm ET on Thursday will not be counted.
There will be several contests for give aways over the next few weeks, with one winner selected per contest. In the event of a tie, the contestant who emailed in first and had the best record (tying or beating our best finishing writer in week 10) will win the book. Good luck to all who enter!
Feel free to comment on our writer’s picks, and as they progress throughout the weekend and into the next week.
Without further haste, here are our writer’s picks for Week 10 of the 2010 NFL season:

Breakdown:Chris: I have to go with the Falcons here because they are explosive, even against good defenses, and they have a perfect record at home. This will be one of the best games, if not the best game, this week. Kevin: The battle of the birds. The better defense will be the difference, and we all know where that egg rests. Yeah, I went there. Taylor: Bird bowl! I love the way the Falcons have looked. Give me them at home. Keet: Baltimore needs to keep winning for a shot at the AFC North. Flacco gets it done against a shaky secondary. |

Breakdown:Chris: Two teams that have both come ever so close the past few weeks face off is what should be the hardest fought game this week. Kevin: Matthew Stafford hurt his shoulder again. All the steam is officially out of Detroit, and Buffalo still wants to win, oh, so badly. Taylor: If Shaun Hill winds up playing, I love the Lions here. Keet: I’m not so sure how well Drew Stanton will play, and Buffalo has to win at some point. |

Breakdown:Chris: As long as Peyton isn’t on the injured list the Colts have a chance to win. Kevin: I don’t care how desperate the Bengals are. Peyton Manning doesn’t do mediocrity. Taylor: Peyton isn’t gonna be happy after playing his worst game of the season in Philly. Sorry, Bengals. Keet: I’m not betting against Manning even though he disappointed me last week. |

Breakdown:Chris: Call me crazy, but the way the Browns have been playing may earn them a Wild Card berth. Kevin: After the past two weeks, I don’t believe in the Jets. And because of Peyton Hillis, I do believe in the Browns. Taylor: Colt McCoy’s career starts against the Steelers, Saints, Patriots, and Jets. Crazy to think that he’s on the verge of 3-1. Keet: It’s a win/win for me. If the Jets win, I get the pick right. If the Browns win, I’m happy as a Browns fan. |

Breakdown:Chris: The “Fire Childress” chants may be coming from the sidelines as well as the stands this week. Kevin: The Vikings saved their season, and I’ve been calling the Bears pretenders all along. Taylor: Chicago is extremely average. The Vikings can’t blow this one. Keet: Minnesota will get to Cutler this week as the Bears offensive line is as bad as they come. |

Breakdown:Chris: The Texans take out their frustrations on the Jags, who could surprise them in front of the 12 people that still care that there is a football team in Jacksonville. Kevin: This is the game where MJD finally really goes off. The Jaguars have the better defense right now, and well, thats just sad. Taylor: Jaguars defenders are going to be seeing Arian Foster during their nightmares after this game. Keet: I wanted to pick the Jags with David Garrard against this secondary, but I can’t see Schaub and Co. losing this week. |

Breakdown:Chris: The worst home team in the league hosts the Titans with journeyman WR Randy Moss. Kevin: The Randy Moss era in Tennessee will not go as planned on the road. Taylor: Miami has to win at home at some point. Right? Right? Keet: I really like the Dolphins, but they keep blowing it in the 4th quarter. |

Breakdown:Chris: Who’s gonna play QB for the Panthers this week? Who knows, but I got a call to be the backup. Kevin: The under rated Buccaneers can’t lose to a Jimmy Clausen-led team. Taylor: Carolina sucks. Keet: Carolina is a bad, bad team. |

Breakdown:Chris: The Broncos just suck, but at least Josh McDaniels can’t be the first coach fired this year. Kevin: The Chiefs might be for real, but Denver is still at home and they don’t go down without a fight. Taylor: I have no idea why. Keet: I still think the Chiefs are overrated. |

Breakdown:Chris: The Rams could actually win the division this year. Kevin: I like what the Rams are doing, but with this 49er win, suddenly this division is right back within reach. Taylor: Somehow, the Rams are the better team. Keet: This will be a tough game, but San Fran gets on track and tries to get back in the playoff hunt. |

Breakdown:Chris: Both teams are terribly inconsistent, but someone has to win. Kevin: The implosion against the Vikings drowned the Cardinals. Seattle will just put on the finishing touches. Taylor: This “Bird Bowl” is slightly less appealing than the Baltimore-Atlanta one, for some reason. Keet: The loss of Red Bryant and Colin Cole hurt the running game with an already bad secondary. Surprisingly, I’m taking Derek Anderson in this one. |

Breakdown:Chris: I don’t expect the Patriots to look as sloppy and outmatched as they did in Cleveland. Kevin: How do you rebound after a blowout loss to the Browns? I’m guessing, not with a road win against the Steelers. Taylor: Tough call, but I don’t like what I saw from New England last week. Keet: The Patriots can rebound, but the Steelers played somewhat poorly late in Monday night’s game, and will get back on track. |

Breakdown:Chris: The Eagles were impressive last week against the Colts. The Redskins were impressive… in the 90s. Kevin: The Eagles look sharp, and as long as Vick can stay on the field this time around, Philly should top the ‘Skins. Taylor: The Eagles aren’t going to go 0-2 against Washington. Keet: Vick is back. That’s all that needs to be said. |

You guys don’t even think that Washington has a chance to beat the Eagles? You can never sleep on division rivals.

They’ve already beaten them once this year, and I just can’t see them sweeping. It is in Washington though, so the home field could be big in a Monday night setting. I’ll give the Redskins a chance but it’s tough to go against Vick with the way he’s been rolling all year long.
With McNabb, of course Washington has a chance, but the way the Eagles have been playing they could make a solid run into the post season.
That was also when Vick went down and Kolb had to step in and struggled later in the game. I think with Vick 100% now, the Redskins defense collapses. Not to mention, Torain won’t be at 100% and the Redskins will probably have to rely a bit more on 3rd stringer Keiland Williams. There’s always a chance, like you said, Chris, but I think we all believe that it’s more unlikely than anything.
