2010 NFL Picks: Week 9 Writer Picks

2010 NFL Picks

Week 9 of our 2010 NFL Writer Picks has arrived, after another week of interesting games and tough calls. Taylor Smith led the way in week 8, posting an impressive 9-4 mark, while Keet Bailey and Chris Powell were right behind him at 8-5.

2010 NFL Picks

Are the Patriots the best team in the NFL?

Keet Bailey and Chris Powell had the two best picks of the week, as Bailey was the only writer to pick the Green Bay Packers to top the New York Jets on the road, and Powell was the only writer to pick the Jacksonville Jaguars to beat the Dallas Cowboys in Dallas. In fact, Bailey bested all of ESPN’s expert analysts, as no expert on ESPN’s site picked the Packers to win.

With another week of interesting matchups and tough calls, our writers once again throw caution to the wind and pick the outcomes of 13 new NFL battles.

Read on to see the picks and comments for the week, and feel free to comment yourself below. Without further haste, here are our writer’s picks for Week 9 of the 2010 NFL season:

Sun Nov 7

AT

Breakdown:

Chris: I have a friend who is a Jets fan and I’ve already started harassing him about the Jets losing to the Lions this week, and while I don’t think it will happen, it could, and oh, would I ever love that!

Kevin: The Jets were in a lull after the bye. That will change quickly against Detroit.

Taylor: The Lions are very, very impressive. Unfortunately, I can’t see the Jets messing the bed twice in a row.

Keet: I like the Lions, but Rex Ryan won’t tolerate two consecutive losses.

Breakdown:

Chris: Miami is unbeaten on the road, but this week they run into a brick wall in Baltimore.

Kevin: Miami could easily take this one, but the nod goes to the more talented home team.

Taylor: Ravens will be rested and ready to go after the bye. See ya, Dolphins road perfection! Breathe easy, Mercury.

Keet: I really think Miami can win this game, but because they had to give everything they had against the lowly Bengals, it makes me a bit leery.

Breakdown:

Chris: The best team in the league travels to Cleveland, and well, notch another victory for Belichick and Brady.

Kevin: Every week feels like a week Cleveland pulls out a shocker out of nowhere. But the Patriots look pretty good right now.

Taylor: We’ve seen Cleveland’s potential for pulling the shocker, but the Patriots are rolling right now.

Keet: If I pick against Cleveland, maybe they will win. It’s a win/win for me.

Breakdown:

Chris: The beginning of the beginning for the Chargers..

Kevin: Philip Rivers should have a field day against Houston’s horrible secondary.

Taylor: Houston is playoff-caliber. This is a must-win at home.

Keet: The Chargers continue last weeks win into their playoff streak.

Sun Nov 7

AT

Breakdown:

Chris: I hate the Bills, but admire the heart they have shown the past few weeks.

Kevin: It should be another close one for the Bills, but this could be the week Jay Cutler and co. finally go off.

Taylor: The Bills have been close, but haven’t found the pot o’ gold just yet. I think the Bears will be ready.

Keet: They have to win sometime, and who better than to beat than Jay Cutler?

Sun Nov 7

AT

Breakdown:

Chris: No Moss, possibly no Harvin, and at most a banged up Favre will lead to a hot seat for Childress.

Kevin: I don’t care how bad the Vikings appear to be. They’re still better than a team led by Max Hall or Derek Anderson.

Taylor: Dear Vikings, please don’t screw this one up. Thanks, Taylor.

Keet: The Vikings have been about as good as Dallas in breaking my heart. However, I don’t pick Derek Anderson-led teams to win games, unless they are called “Who Has the Bigger Shoe”.

Sun Nov 7

AT

Breakdown:

Chris: Imma jump of the Bucs bandwagon for a week.

Kevin: Tampa almost blew a huge lead against the Cardinals last week. Atlanta will take advantage of that immaturity.

Taylor: Somehow, this division manages to turn completely over every single season. There’s no explanation for this. Still think ATL is the best team in the division, though.

Keet: Atlanta is 3-0 at home, and Tampa is 3-0 on the road. Time for Tampa’s lack of secondary to cost them an undefeated road gig.

Sun Nov 7

AT

Breakdown:

Chris: The Saints have found themselves, and will win this one.

Kevin: Just when you think the Saints have put it all together again, they lose to Carolina on the road.

Taylor: So, you can lose to the Cardinals and Browns, but beat the Steelers?

Keet: There’s no reason to think that the Saints can’t win this after they got embarrassed by the Browns and took their frustration out on the Steelers.

Sun Nov 7

AT

Breakdown:

Chris: Fragile as glass Hasselbeck better watch his back against the Giants defense.

Kevin: The Giants pass rush will crush Matt Hasselbeck behind his weak offensive line.

Taylor: Seahawks are impressive at home, but the G-Men were on fire before the bye. Won’t stop this week.

Keet: The Giants offense is just too explosive.

Breakdown:

Chris: I don’t care who Manning is throwing to, he just gets it done.

Kevin: The Eagles are good, but I just don’t like placing bets against Peyton Manning.

Taylor: Michael Vick will likely be back. The nicked-up Colts defense will struggle to contain him.

Keet: This could easily be in Philly’s favor, but I hate picking against Peyton Manning.

Sun Nov 7

AT

Breakdown:

Chris: The shootout no one would have ever expected ends with another KC victory.

Kevin: Have the Oakland Raiders suddenly become the class of the AFC West?

Taylor: The Raiders cannot be stopped right now, even by the 5-2 Chiefs. What? This is happening? Just pinched myself. Not a dream.

Keet: Kansas City is not that great of a football team. I will say it every week if I have to.

Breakdown:

Chris: Based on talent alone Dallas is one of the better teams in the league, so why then, are they 1-6? The short answer is that they have no heart. I’m pretty sure that when you sign your contract in Dallas Jones has your heart replaced with a block of ice, which would explain so much, and may give them a slight advantage if it’s cold at Lambeau. ;)

Kevin: Eventually the talent will out-weight the mistakes. Right?

Taylor: Wade=So fired. Garrett=Clueless. O-Line=Old and cooked. Defense=Broncos. Cowboys=Garbage.

Keet: I will never pick the Cowboys again the rest of this season. They are dead to me.

Mon Nov 8

AT

Breakdown:

Chris: Last year this would have been an excellent Monday night game, this year I expect a defensive struggle with the better of the two defenses coming out on top.

Kevin: Cincinnati just doesn’t look like a playoff team, and I don’t see non-playoff teams beating the Steelers right now.

Taylor: Really? This is the Monday night game? Looks like I’ll be watching basketball next Monday night.

Keet: Big Ben should torch this secondary that’s hurting badly.
