2010 NFL Trade Rumors: Brandon Marshall Headed For Miami
ESPN’s Adam Schefter is reporting that Denver Broncos’ star receiver, Brandon Marshall, is being shipped off to the Miami Dolphins for a package of second-round picks.
The reported trade will have Miami sending off the Dolphins’ 2010 second-round pick, along with their 2011 first-round pick. The deal is still unofficial, as Marshall still needs to pass a physical.
Upon the completion of the trade, Marshall is reportedly expected to sign “one of the most lucrative wide receiver deals” in league history. Considering the top part of the NFL market for receivers has been $10 million for over two year, Marshall is likely to see a hefty pay day (something Denver was unwilling to give him).
The addition of Marshall to Miami’s otherwise lacklster receiving corps solidifies an already (at times) explosive offense, giving the young Chad Henne a truly elite option at receiver.
Marshall coming to town could eventually lead to a major distraction down the road, as it is always a risk with a player like Marshall, but his presence nullifies the needs to draft a receiver early, and also makes Ted Ginn Jr.even more expendable than he already is.
Ginn Jr. is reportedly on the trading block, and isn’t expected back with the team.
Marshall, who has recorded at least 101 receptions and 1,000+ yards in three straight seasons, brings a whole new dimension to the Dolphins, giving them their first bonafide “elite” receiver since before Chris Chambers.
If the deal goes through, it will be an interesting conclusion to a long off-season of trade rumors, along with an entire year prior that involved disputes between Marshall and rookie head coach Josh McDaniels, as well as Broncos’ owner, Pat Bowlen.
