2010 NFL Trade Rumors: Redskins Actively Shopping Albert Haynesworth?

Albert Haynesworth Trade Rumors

We heard about it before, but now there’s some bite to go with the bark. With the addition of defensive tackle Adam Carriker in a trade with the St. Louis Rams, the rumors that the Washington Redskins are shopping AlbertHaynesworth could actually be more real than we thought.

Washington officials and head coach Mike Shanahan have claimed that Haynesworth is not availabe, and that regardless of prior talks with teams before landing Donovan McNabb, they are no longer interested in parting with the “$100 Million Dollar Man”.

Even Donovan McNabb has reached out to Haynesworth, trying to help the star defensive tackle get a better sense of what the Redskins are trying to do, in an effort get Haynesworth to “play along”.

Well, regardless of what Shanahan, McNabb, or anyone else says in Washington, the writing is on the wall.

Carriker, although a borderline bust in St. Louis, could give Washington a capable replacement, while also getting something back in a potential deal involvingHanyesworth.

Here’s a look at some possible destinations if a trade is conjured up before or during the 2010 NFL Draft:

Tennessee Titans

Tennessee now knows what it’s like to try to stop the run without a big man-eater in the middle of their defense, and according to ESPN’s John Clayton, they could be the front-runner to acquire him.

Haynesworth is rumored to never truly wanting to leave Tennessee, as he simply too a fat contract offered by the Washington Redskins last year. Haynesworth is reportedly extremely unhappy to potentially making a switch to nose tackle in new defensive coordinator Jim Haslett’s 3-4 defense.

The Titans would likely have to cough up at least a third-rounder, as well as pay the Redskins back a decent amount of the $21 million they paid him on his roster bonus.

Jeff Fischer and the Titans have been open about the possibility of bringing back Haynesworth, making Tennessee the top destination for the disgruntled Washington star.

Detroit Lions

Detroit is among many teams that could use a stud defensive tackle, and have ties to to Haynesworth.

The Lions do have Corey Williams, but it’s been no secret that former Titans’ defensive coordinator (and current Lions head coach) Jim Schwartz is interested in bringingHaynesworth back to his defense.

Haynesworth would simply be another solid (although, more than solid) addition to a Detroit franchise that continues to address needs and has been upgrading across the board throughout the off-season.

The Lions will have to give up some picks and some cash to have a shot at landing Haynesworth, but they’re not being ruled out of the running just yet.

St. Louis Rams

The Rams and Redskins just orchestrated a deal that sent Adam Carriker over to Washington, and the Redskins only gave up some fifth-round picks to do it.

Now that they have their end of the deal worked out the Rams could start chipping away at the demands of the Redskins to land Haynesworth. It’s extremely possible that talks of this matter died down and ended for good with the Carriker deal, but a trade for Haynesworth could allow the Rams to pass on a stud defensive tackle with the top overall pick in this year’s draft, and draft Sam Bradford, instead.

There still remains the slight possibility that the Rams could trade their top pick and another mid-to-late-round pick for Washington’s first-round pick andAlbert Haynesworth . If this deal were to work out, it’s likely the Rams would also have to include some money to help pay back what the Redskins have already spent onHaynesworth.

If the two teams want to get really tricky, they could swap first-round picks, along with Haynesworth and Clinton Portis for Steven Jackson, another member of the Rams who has been rumored to be open to a trade.

Other teams that could express interest: Tampa Bay, Kansas City
