2012 NFL Trade Rumors | Aquib Talib, Asante Samuel and Jabar Gaffney Being Shopped
With eight days left before the 2012 NFL Draft touches down on the NFL world, there are already some serious NFL trade rumors swirling around the league.
There have been many players discussed in potential trade scenarios, from Chicago’s Matt Forte to Carolina’s Jonathan Stewart, to Dallas’s Felix Jones recently.
In fact, we’ve already seen Brandon Marshall get traded from Miami to Chicago, and Demeco Ryans from Houston to Philadelphia. And according to several sources, there are some more names that could be moving to new cities before or during this year’s draft:
Aqib Talib, CB, Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Talib has some major off-field legal issues to deal with, and he’s been more of a problem than a help since being drafted by the Buccaneers three years ago. According to the Pewter Report, Talib’s days in Tampa Bay are most certainly numbered. It could be very difficult for the Buccaneers to move Talib because of a possible looming NFL suspension to open the 2012 season, but he’s still an elite corner that should draw some interest.
Regardless of what happens, there’s a good chance Tampa Bay will have to wait until after the draft to unload Talib. Unless, of course, they’re prepared to part with him for a mid-round pick or later.
Talib is a problem child, but perhaps the Cincinnati Bengals would take a shot at keeping his career intact. They’re infamous for patching bad character guys’s careers together. The Denver Broncos and Detroit Lions also need help at corner and could express interest.
Asante Samuel, CB, Philadelphia Eagles
According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Eagles are openly shopping Samuel “around the league”. Samuel has had trade buzz surrounding him ever since Philly added cornerback Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie in the Kevin Kolb trade last off-season. It’s truly only a matter of time before the team finds a trade partner and ships him off.
The Lions were somewhat tied to Samuel early in the off-season, and they could make a play for him. If they do, it could free up their first-rounder and allow them to be more flexible entering this year’s draft.
Jabar Gaffney, WR, Washington Redskins
Chris Russell revealed via Twitter than Gaffney himself has said the Redskins are “trying to trade me”. Gaffney had a decent 2011 season as Washington’s main possession receiver, but due to off-season acquisitions, he appears to be the odd man out. He’s still serviceable, but it’s extremely unlikely anyone tries to swing a trade for a 31-yar old possession wideout with no explosiveness. He’s a clear release candidate.
