Aaron Hernandez to Play in Week 5?

New England Patriots star tight end Aaron Hernandez (ankle) participated in his second straight practice yesterday, according to multiple sources, including the Boston Herald. But does that mean he will take the field versus the Denver Broncos this weekend?

We all know that making educated guesses based on the Patriots official injury report is like drinking soup with a slotted spoon, but we would guess the Pats will (or at least should) sit Hernandez. Tom Brady never lacks for targets and he’s owned Denver’s defense in his past two games against them, so it’s not as if the offense will sputter in his absence.

We don’t generally like ankle injuries, as they can easily become long-term nagging situations. If you have no other options besides Hernandez at tight end in week five, we suggest you buy a Ouija board and ask it if he will play on Sunday. But we’re not sure that Coach Belichick doesn’t control those forces, as well.

Even if he is active this week, we recommend benching him, just to be safe. If you have guys like Dennis Pitta, Martellus Bennett or Kyle Rudolph standing by to help out for another week, you should still be in good shape.
