Alex Smith Leaning Toward Returning to 49ers

2010 Fantasy Football

According to ProFootballTalk.com, San Francisco 49ers quarterback Alex Smith has confirmed that he’s likely to return to the team in 2011.

After remaining quiet on the subject, despite his new head coach backing him, Smith finally admitted to reporters following a workout that he will more than likely be back in San Francisco. Head coach Jim Harbaugh has publicly backed Smith’s talent and leadership, and has said he is excited to work with Smith. However, the team has been vocal about an open quarterback competition between Smith and rookie quarterback, Colin Kaepernick.

Fantasy Perspective:

If Smith comes back, you have to think he still wins the job due to his talent and experience. Kaepernick is special, but he’s still a bit raw. Smith still has a deadly weapon in Vernon Davis and is backed by Frank Gore, so fantasy success is there for the taking. Monitor this eventual position battle all summer.
