Arizona Cardinals: Ryan Williams, Beanie Wells to Miss Hall of Fame Game

Ryan Williams still has the talent to be special.

The Arizona Cardinals will be without their top two running backs when they kick off the 2012 NFL preseason in the Hall of Fame game against the New Orleans Saints.

According to the Arizona Republic, backup running back Ryan Williams will sit out the first preseason game. Williams is attempting to return following a devastating patellar tendon injury that kept him out of his entire rookie season in 2011.

“I’m not going to play, maybe catch the next one, ” Williams said, “I’m in no rush to get back on the knee. I’m just chilling. Rehab is going well. It’s just not worth it to risk it in a game that doesn’t mean that much.”

Starting running back Chris “Beanie” Wells, who is nursing a knee injury following minor off-season surgery, will also not suit up for the game. That leaves backups LaRod Stephens-Howling, Alfonzo Smith, Thomas Clayton and William Powell remaining to fight for playing time on Sunday night.
