Bill Parcells Not Likely To Coach Saints
The Big Tuna in The Big Easy? Don’t count on it.
While the idea of retired coach Bill Parcells returning to be the head coach of the New Orleans Saints while Sean Payton serves a one-year suspension for his involvement in the team’s bounty scandal looks good on paper, it may never be put into practice.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that “it wouldn’t be a surprise if Bill Parcells bypassed the opportunity, turned it down, knowing the job and energy it will take to do it.” Schefter notes Parcells’ habit of getting close to offers with teams in the past, but ultimately turning them down and not taking the job.
This situation is a bit different than others in the past, though. Parcells has previously said that he would coach for Payton if Payton approached him, due to their close history together. Payton and other Saints front office personnel have talked to Parcells, but no job offer has been confirmed.
With the Saints still trying to deal with the fallout from the bounty scandal, one has to wonder if Parcells really wants to get himself involved in all this.
