Browns RB Trent Richardson Ahead of Schedule
According to Nate Ulrich of the Akron Beacon Journal via Twitter, Cleveland Browns running back Trent Richardson may be ahead of schedule.
Ulrich tweeted on Sunday “
#Browns HC Pat Shurmur said RB Trent Richardson has made good progress & might be ahead of schedule in rehab from left knee surgery.”
Richardson had minor arthroscopic surgery on his left knee August 9th in order to remove a “hang nail particle” of loose cartilage, despite some team officials believing that he could have likely played through it.
The Browns and Richardson made the smart move, however, in doing their best to take care of the #3 overall pick in the 2012 NFL Draft. It’s not a cheap investment, and the last thing you want is your rookie running back ailing early in the season.
However, being such a minor procedure, this should be good news for Browns fans, as I expect him to be ready for Week 1, and likely will not see much action in the pre-season.
Richardson has the ability to be one of the best backs in the NFL and if the Browns offensive line blocks the run as well as I believe they will this season, he should be an asset in fantasy leagues.
Look for T-Rich to see minor reps throughout the rest of training camp, as the Browns will likely reserve him for the start of the regular season. It simply does not make sense to rush him back.
I still expect Richardson to finish as a Top 10 back as a rookie in fantasy football, and am drafting with confidence in the second round.
