Cardinals Place Beanie Wells on Temporary Injured Reserve
The Arizona Cardinals have officially placed running back Chris “Beanie” Wells on injured reserve on Wednesday, by giving him the “designated for return” tag. The move means Wells (turf toe) will not be able to play for the next six weeks, and at least temporarily makes backup Ryan Williams the full-time starting running back. The earliest Wells can play is November 25th.
The team also signed running back Alfonso Smith off the practice squad to join Williams, LaRod Stephens-Howling and William Powell on the active roster.
Williams should be in line for starter carries when the Cardinals face the Dolphins at home on Sunday.
First of all, can we just call this thing the Temporary Injured Reserve and be done with it? Moving on, I think Wells can safely be dropped, while Williams needs to be owned in every league. He looked spry against the Eagles in week three, and should get every chance to be the guy while Wells is out. Once he makes it happen, like I believe he can, his production might leave Wells to be nothing more than a change of pace guy.
