Colt McCoy Not Throwing at NFL Combine

McCoy

Texas quarterback Colt McCoy, one of the top quarterback prospects for the NFL Draft, will not throw at the NFL Combine.

This is apparently coming straight from Dr. James Andrews, who conducted the surgery on McCoy’s bum right shoulder, although the exact reasons are not known.

Andrews originally gave McCoy a two-week recovery time following Texas’ BCS title game loss to Alabama on January 7th, but with nearly two months of rest and rehab, McCoy is still not ready (or not willing) to throw for NFL GM’s and coaches.

This leads draft experts to speculate whether the injury was worse than originally thought, or if the recovery is just going much slower than planner.

Either way, the news is not good for McCoy.

If the injury is worse than previously diagnosed, teams will want to know about it, especially if McCoy will miss any time leading up to the season.

On the other hand, even if it is simply a slow recovery, teams could balk at how long it’s taking for McCoy to get back to full health. This would downgrade his durability and recovery speed, which would see his stock take a major hit, as he’s already regarded as one of the weaker, less durable passers in the draft.

However, as bad as this news could be for McCoy, it’s unlikely to drown his stock, as the top two quarterbacks, Jimmy Clausen and Sam Bradford, are also missing the Combine‘s physical drills.
