Darrelle Revis Trade Rumors: Jets Looking For a First Round Pick in Offers

Darrelle Revis is still a difference maker.

The New York Jets are in a bad way right now. Depending on what happens this off-season, that could change dramatically, one way or the other. Head coach Rex Ryan sees a potential end as head coach looming, and wants nothing to do with the trade rumors swirling around the team and star injured cornerback Darrelle Revis.

While Ryan may want to keep his best defensive player around, the front office may have other plans. Per reports, the team is listening to trade offers for Revis, and is looking for “at least” a first round draft choice for their star corner.

Revis is coming off of a lost season due to an ACL tear, but is expected to be 100% well before week one, and at just 27 is still one of the top cover corners in the league, if not the best, when healthy.

Ryan has been vocal about wanting to keep Revis, as his defense was built around Revis’ ability to take away one half of the field on a weekly basis, and was severely exposed at times in 2012 with Revis on the shelf. Without Revis, Ryan’s vaunted defense could slide even further in 2013, and could end up leading to his eventually demise. With a healthy Revis, however, the Jets still have hopes of being a competitive team.

Per Jason Cole via Twitter, at least two teams have already expressed interest in trading for Revis, and many more are sure to follow. However, if the Jets stick to their guns in regards to their demands for a first round pick in return for Revis, then Revis isn’t likely to be moved anytime soon. Add in his hefty contract and the fact that he’s coming off of a serious knee injury, and the lofty price tag seems even more ludicrous.

Ultimately, I don’t think Revis is going anywhere. He still has youth on his side, and if he can work his way back to full health, he can still be the best corner in football and help make the Jets a tough defense again. After all, there’s a reason the Jets have set their asking price so high – because they probably aren’t all that sure they’d want to part with their best player.
