Dwayne Bowe to Sign Franchise Tender?
Dwayne Bowe was hoping to put off signing his one-year franchise tender. However, with the potential threat of the Kansas City Chiefs drafting a wide receiver in the first round of the 2012 NFL Draft and pulling the offer, he may not have that option.
According to ProFootballTalk.com, Bowe is rumored to be seriously considering signing his one-year tender in order to prevent a strong leverage play by the Chiefs.
The interesting aspect is that if Bowe plays it safe and takes away any leverage from Kansas City, he’s actually give up his own leverage. As PFT points out, Bowe would have to show up for all team activities once under contract, and would be penalized if he skipped anything.
On the other hand, if Bowe threw caution to the wind and the Chiefs called his bluff, he could wind up an unrestricted free agent and wouldn’t land a deal anywhere close to what he would have had, had be been a free agent at the start of free agency.
This all adds up to Bowe likely giving into the one-year $9.5 million deal and trying to workout a long-term deal before next off-season.
