Falcons Close to Landing Asante Samuel Via Trade

Asante Samuel Eagles

The Asante Samuel trade rumors started last season after the Philadelphia Eagles acquired cornerback Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie in a trade with the Arizona Cardinals.

Now they might finally come to fruition.

According to Adam Schefter via Twitter, the Atlanta Falcons are “on the verge” of acuiring Samuel from the Eagles for a “late-round pick”.

Prior reports suggested that Samuel would have to rescructure his current contract for the deal to work, while Rotoworld.com speculates that the Eagles would be compensated with a 6th-round draft pick in return for Samuel.

The Falcons already have two Pro Bowl-level cornerbacks with Dunta Robinson and Brent Grimes (who recently signed his franchise tender), but adding Samuel would arguably give Atlanta one of the most formidable pass defenses in the league.
