Fantasy Stock Watch: C.J. Spiller to be Buffalo’s Starting Running Back?
Fred Jackson is out with hand and ankle injuries. Marshawn Lynch has injuries of his own, and has been on the trade block longer than we can remember. And C.J. Spiller? Well, he’s simply living up to all the hype.
Spiller ran for a pedestrian 2.6 yards on the majority of his 10 carries in Buffalo’s preseason game on Thursday, but a beautiful 31-yard scamper for a touchdown, in which he broke three tackles and zig-zagged down the field, has everyone talking.
And talk about Spiller isn’t cheap.
Head coach Chan Gailey has nothing but good things, and has stated that running the ball is clearly what Spiller does best. Well, that should put all of those “Spiller in the slot” rumors to rest.
He’s no lock to be the starter in Week One, much less for the entire season, but we’re liking his fantasy value with each passing day. We can’t vouch for his role in the offense just yet, but we’re going out on a limb and betting he starts in Week One and never looks back.
View him as a low-end RB2 with immense upside. Check out our fantasy running back rankings, too, where he’s currently slotted as the 24th best fantasy back.
