Fantasy Stock Watch | Peyton Hillis
Fantasy owners who took a chance on Peyton Hillis in 2009 couldn’t believe the lack of a role the bruising back held in the Denver Broncos’ offense last season. After a trade for Brady Quinn sent the versatile running back to the running back-stacked Cleveland Browns, his fantasy value became even more questionable.
However, two straight impressive preseason efforts could be showing us exactly what kind of value Hillis holds in Cleveland. With rookie back Montario Hardesty dealing with lingering injuries and not carving out a concrete role, Hillis has been able to prove himself as a punishing rusher and a reliable receiver.
With 51 rushing yards in Cleveland’s second preseason game and 66 total yards and a touchdown in the third game, Hillis has further proven his case for a big role in the Browns’ offense in 2010.
With Hardesty right behind him in the running for touches, Hillis will have to be on top of his game, although he appears to have the leg up on goal-line duties, and should be an effective receiver out of the backfield.
