Fantasy Update: Rams' Donnie Avery Reportedly Lost For Season

2010 NFL News

The St. Louis Rams have announced that number one wide receiver Donnie Avery will miss the entire 2010 NFL season with a torn ACL. Avery injured his knee on a deep pass in Thursday night’s preseason game against the New England Patriots.

Fantasy Dish: While young and inconsistent, Avery was actually showing signs of finally putting it all together, before going down with this injury.

The loss of Avery undoubtedly hurts Sam Bradford’s fantasy stock (what little stock he had), but should vault rookie Mardy Gilyard into a starting position, and could ensure Danny Amendola locks down the slot duties (although we felt pretty good about that, already).

Brandon Gibson, Gilyard, and Laurent Robinson will battle for the top two spots.

Keep an eye on the receiver situation in St. Louis, although we’re still not very high on anyone not named Steve Jackson as a reliable fantasy option for 2010.
