Jonathan Stewart Fine After Injury Versus Jets
Carolina Panthers fans held their breath in the first half of the team’s third preseason game against the New York Jets, as star running back Jonathan Stewart crumbled to the ground with an apparent ankle injury.
The injury occurred after Stewart was clipped at the feet by a Jets defender, and then caught his right foot in the turf while trying to avoid the hit. Stewart was then carted off the field and taken for x-rays, which came back negative.
This marks the second straight week where Stewart had a lower leg injury and exited a preseason game. He “tweaked” a calf muscle last week, but x-rays came back negative, as well.
Stewart clearly avoids a major injury for the second week in a row here, but two injuries in two weeks isn’t the best omen, and negative x-rays certainly don’t mean Stewart will automatically be 100% for week one, either.
This doesn’t hurt Stewart’s fantasy value, but him going down for a significant time certainly would impact DeAngelo Williams and Mike Tolbert. Stewart remains the Panthers running back to own in fantasy football, but an injury in back to back weeks could be cause for concern.
