Justin Blackmon Pleads Guilty to DUI, Won’t See Jail Time
On June 3rd, Jacksonville Jaguars first round pick WR Justin Blackmon was arrested in Stillwater, Oklahoma. Yesterday, Blackmon pleaded guilty to lesser charges under a plea agreement.
Under the plea agreement, Blackmon has been given a sentence of no jail time, must pay a $500 fine, donate $100 to a drug/alcohol treatment fund and court fees. He is also required to complete 50 hours of communtiy service by January, 24 as well as other stipulations set forth in the agreement. He will also have to submit to three urine tests over the course of the next six months. He will be required to have an ignition interlock device in his vehicle for a duration of two years.
Blackmon apologized to the Jaguars and to NFL Comissioner Roger Goodell. He has vowed that it will never happen again. He has undergone an evaluation by a DUI psychologist in Florida and no recommendations were made. Blackmon has insisted that he does not have an alcohol problem and that he is abstaining from alcohol for now.
This is the second time Blackmon has been in the headlines for a DUI. In 2010, he was arrested in Texas but charges were reduced to underage drinking. This time he was arrested for testing three times over the legal limit. The Jaguars have to really keep close tabs on Blackmon after this arrest. He’s a nice talent out of Oklahoma State and someone they look to rebuild the franchise around.
Fantasy Analysis
Blackmon is an extremely talented receiver and someone you should be considering in your fantasy draft. He’s put himself in the spotlight like many other players this offseason. Just like those players, you’ll have to keep up on him to see if any time might be missed resulting from this incident. I don’t think he’ll miss any time but Goodell might see this as an opportunity to set an example to rookies, especially. Blackmon currently projects WR3 status with some upside.
