Miami Dolphins to Work Out Chad Ochocinco
The Miami Dolphins could use some help at wide receiver after trading away number one target Brandon Marshall earlier in the offseason. Coincidentally, former New England Patriots and Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Chad Ochocinco is looking for a new home.
According to Jason La Canfora via Twitter, it could be a match made in heaven. Or, at the very least, the Dolphins will work the veteran receiver out sometime this week.
Ochocinco wasn’t his usual self in 2011, as he posted career lows across the board as a member of the Patriots, finishing with a meager 15 receptions, 275 yards and just one touchdown.
However, reports have suggested that Most of Ochocinco’s struggles can be attributed to his inability to fully grasp New England’s complex offensive system. He was never really able to get onto the same page with quarterback Tom Brady, and was eventually a victim of a depth chart slide.
Still, that doesn’t mean Ochocinco has no speed or ability left, and it certainly doesn’t mean he couldn’t be useful in Miami, where their projected starters are expected to be Brian Hartline and Davone Bess.
Ochocinco is still just one year removed from a solid final season in Cincinnati, where he put up 67 receptions for 831 yards and four touchdowns.
The writing may have already been on the wall that the 34-year old’s best days are behind him, but it’s arguable that he still has enough left o give the Dolphins a mild upgrade in the starting lineup over what they already have.
That is, if Ochocinco impresses in workouts and can handle their playbook better than he handled New England’s.
While Ochocinco still has to prove he would be an asset, him landing in Miami makes a lot of sense. He owns a home in Miami and loves the area, while the team could use help at wide receiver. The opportunity to play against the Patriots twice a year might add some fuel to the fire, as well.
