Monday Night Fantasy Football Versus: Week 4

Sad the weekend is over? Maybe you’re upset because you’d decided to start Michael Vick, Ray Rice, or Ryan Mathews, who were all extremely limited due to injury.

Well, if you’re banking on your Patriots or Dolphins players to help pick up the slack on Monday Night Football, you may still be in fine shape.

If you’re having trouble setting your last-minute Monday night lineup, NFL Soup has you covered.

Quarterbacks

Tom Brady (New England Patriots) vs. Chad Henne (Miami Dolphins)

Henne put up some nice numbers last week against a tough Jets defense (363 yards with two touchdowns), but, if you have the choice of either he or Tom Brady, it’s still a no-brainer.

Brady is the guy.

He’s racked up 768 yards in three games, is completing about 68 percent of his passes, and has thrown eight touchdowns as opposed to just two interceptions.

Will all those weapons at his disposal, you can’t bench Brady.

Running Backs

BenJarvus Green-Ellis (Patriots) vs. Ronnie Brown/Ricky Williams (Dolphins)

Yep, that’s one Patriot and two Dolphins.

Green-Ellis (AKA: The Law Firm) carried it 16 times for 98 yards with a touchdown last week against Buffalo, and will likely be New England’s No. 1 back Monday night as well.

Sammy Morris and Danny Woodhead may get some opportunities, but Law Firm will see the majority of the looks.

Miami’s two-headed running attack has been much less formidable in the three games thus far, and the famed Wildcat formation is seeing less and less action.

That makes Ronnie Brown, as the primary back, a much better fantasy option than Ricky Williams.

The Dolphins may be looking to throw it more, especially with the uncertainty in the Patriots’ secondary.

However, Ronnie Brown should still get a good amount of work.

If you have Green-Ellis and Ricky Williams, start Green-Ellis.

If you have Green-Ellis and Brown, I would start Ronnie Brown.

Wide Receivers

Randy Moss (Patriots) vs. Brandon Marshall (Dolphins)

Moss has only caught four passes combined in the last two games, but three of those have resulted in touchdowns.

He’s Tom Brady’s no. 1 big-play target, and it’s not a stretch at all to imagine No. 81 making another appearance in the end zone tonight.

However, Moss’ targets take a hit with Wes Welker and Aaron Hernandez having been extremely productive thus far.

This causes me to turn in the direction of Brandon Marshall, who caught 10 passes for 166 yards with a touchdown last week.

With the aforementioned sketchiness of New England’s defensive backfield, I’m confident that Marshall could be in for a huge night.

He’s caught 22 passes this season, and is battling the lesser Davone Bess and Brian Hartline for looks from Chad Henne.

In a very tough call, I would start Marshall over Moss. However, if you have both of these guys on your team, I don’t see why you’d be forced to choose between the two.

They should both be starting.

Wes Welker (Patriots) vs. Davone Bess (Dolphins)

Welker has caught 18 passes this season, and has shown no ill-effects of last season’s ACL injury thus far.

He’s also scored three touchdowns, and we know how often Tom Brady likes to go to his reliable star in the slot.

While Davone Bess is no Wes Welker, he’s quietly putting together a pretty solid season thus far.

He’s caught 13 passes with a touchdown on the season, including six for 86 last week against the Jets.

However, it should be Brandon Marshall followed by more Brandon Marshall tonight for Miami.

Welker is just about as steady as it gets, and I see no reason to go away from him now.

Start Welker.

Tight Ends

Aaron Hernandez/Rob Gronkowski (Patriots) vs. Anthony Fasano (Dolphins)

These two New England rookie tight ends have made quite an impact so far.

Hernandez already has 13 catches on the season, but has not yet reached the end zone.

Red zone duties appear to belong to Gronkowski, who has just five catches on the season, but two of them have been for touchdowns.

Fasano was a fairly reliable tight end a couple of seasons ago, but has almost fallen off of the map completely.

He could randomly score a touchdown, but it’s much more likely that he makes one or two catches with very little impact on the game.

Start either Patriots tight end over Fasano. Hernandez has the most potential of the three, due to his big-play ability.
