NFL Report: Byron Leftwich Suffers Torn MCL

Pittsburgh Steelers

According to Pro Player Solutions via NFL.com, Pittsburgh Steelers back-up quarterback Byron Leftwich has torn his MCL in his left knee, and will be out indefinitely.

Leftwich, who was in the running to start at quarterback until Ben Roethlisberger returns from his early season suspension, officially has a knee sprain, but according to a source close to him, the MCL is torn.

Fantasy Dish: And there goes Leftwich’s last chance at a starting gig in the NFL. We’re not so sure he had a firm grasp on the starting job anyways, as Dennis Dixon showed a great added dimension as a runner, and was simply more effective at escaping the pass rush.

We called Dixon as the starter all along, and although winning the job due to an injury is never fun to write home about, Dixon will take it for what it is. Don’t expect Dixon to be a fantasy stud, but his dual value is still worth noting.
