NFL Rumors: Browns to Shut Trent Richardson Down For 3 Weeks?
The rookie hype train could come to a screeching halt this week. As if it wasn’t already bad enough that Cleveland Browns running back Trent Richardson came up lame for fantasy owners in week seven, the team is now talking about an extended break for their star rookie runner.
According to ESPN‘s Ed Werder, the Browns have had serious discussions about shutting down Richardson through the team’s week 10 bye, which could have him missing three weeks of action.
Not only will Cleveland find it extra difficult to sell Browns tickets with T-Rich potentially sidelined, but fantasy owners will have to scramble for a replacement for their formerly stud runner for several weeks.
The first guy that comes to mind would logically be the guy that is replacing him in his own lineup, and that’s Montario Hardesty. He’s not a bad option and should offer up low-end RB2 value. However, the hotter name on the waiver wire is Rashad Jennings, who will be taking over for a similarily shelved Maurice Jones-Drew for an “extended period” of time in Jacksonville.
Richardson being shutdown is not set in stone just yet, but per reports, his rib injury is “serious” and will need a good amount of rest to fully heal.
