Rams Interested in Albert Haynesworth?
After being cut by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers earlier this month–his third team in two seasons–defensive tackle Albert Haynesworth may have a new team interested in him. However, the coach is someone he’s very familiar with.
According to Gregg Rosenthal of ProFootballTalk.com, St. Louis Rams head coach Jeff Fisher sounded very open to the possibility of adding Haynesworth. Fisher was head coach of the Tennessee Titans when they drafted Haynesworth in the first round in 2002. They were there together until Haynesworth left as a free agent after the 2008 season.
Haynesworth is known for having attitude problems and personal conduct issues and shouldn’t have many teams try to sign him this offseason. But if there’s one coach that can handle him, it’s Fisher. After Haynesworth’s stomping incident in 2006, Fisher laid into him and almost removed him from the team. Haynesworth would later apologize, and then go on to have All-Pro seasons the next two years in 2007 and 2008.
It will be interesting to see if Fisher’s openness to adding Haynesworth actually goes anywhere, but this could realistically be the only chance Haynesworth has of playing pro football in 2012.
