Redskins Acquire No. 2 Pick in 2012 NFL Draft From Rams

Robert Griffin

According to FOX Sports‘ Jay Glazer via Twitter, the Washington Redskins and St. Louis Rams have agreed on a trade that nets Washington the No. 2 overall pick in next month’s NFL draft.

The teams will swap first-rounders in 2012 (with St. Louis receiving the No. 6 overall selection), and the Rams will also acquire two future first-rounders and additional picks, one of which is believed to be a second-rounder.

The Rams had long been rumored to be interested in trading the pick, as several different teams were clamoring for the opportunity to draft Heisman Trophy winner Robert Griffin III. With Sam Bradford, the No. 1 overall pick in 2009, entering his third season, St. Louis obviously had no interest in RGIII.

The move for Washington likely comes in light of the news that free agent Peyton Manning reportedly had no interest in playing for them, and almost certainly means they will draft Robert Griffin III.
