Robert Griffin III Solid in Redskins’ Preseason Debut

Robert Griffin III draws arguably unfair comparison to 2011 rookie sensation, Cam Newton. They’re both athletic passers with big arms just dripping with potential. One thing they don’t have in common, however, is an impressive pro debut.
Newton struggled in preseason action as a rookie, while RG3 already looked like a seasoned veteran in many respects on Thursday night, as he completed 4-of-6 passes for 70 yards and a touchdown. He did lose a fumble on a hand-off exchange, but otherwise escaped his first pro game unscathed.
While it’s a stretch to go off of this one game and assume RG3 will match or top what Newton did as a rookie, the talent and potential was clearly evident, while he was able to limit his mistakes. Griffin III was accurate and displayed soft touch on his passes, and simply looked cool and calm in the pocket.
He didn’t face much pressure and the game-plan worked off the run, but it was still a very impressive start to what figures to be a great career for the number two pick in the 2012 NFL Draft. All eyes will be on Indianapolis Colts’ number one pick Andrew Luck next.
Fantasy Analysis
RG3 just convinced me that I was right to plot him down as my #10 fantasy quarterback in 2012, and a couple more solid performances like this, and he just might find his way inside of that grouping. I know it’s just one game, but we didn’t even get to see RG3 go deep down the field or take off running yet. The sky is the limit for the kid, and serious fantasy potential could go along for the ride in year one.

> One thing they don’t have in common, however, is an impressive pro debut. Umm. . .422 yards, 2 passing and 1 rushing TDs don't ring a bell? Preseason isn't any more a "pro" debut than running naked through a football field would be.
I'm not comparing their regular season debuts. RG3 hasn't had his yet. I was comparing their preseason debuts, in which RG3 was clearly more impressive.
And I'm saying preseason debuts are glorified practice scrimmages and any successes or failures should be taken with a Mt. Everest-sized grain of salt.
I completely agree, but people want to hear about guys like RG3, how they performed, and how it could change their fantasy stock. RG3 is a question mark entering his rookie year, and I think a strong preseason debut eased a lot of fantasy owner's minds, as well as Redskin fan's minds.
