Ryan Tannehill to Start Vs. Panthers
The Miami Dolphins are handing over the reigns to their rookie quarterback. Perhaps not permanently, but for at least one week in the preseason, Ryan Tannehill will start the game under center, and Matt Moore will be his backup.
Tannehill was solid in his pro debut a week ago, going 14-of-21 and tossing a touchdown. His knowledge of Miami’s offense and the poise and control he showed last week offers promise. A strong showing for the second week in a row could offer a whole lot more than that.
With expected starter David Garrard sidelined with a knee injury, the job is there for the taking for the rookie quarterback, and he may just pull it off. Matt Moore has looked good, himself, so far in camp and the first preseason game, but the Dolphins may feel inclined to roll with the more talented Tannehill if he can continue to show signs of progress.
He gets his shot to prove he can start from day one Friday night against the Carolina Panthers.
Tannehill doesn’t have a ton of fantasy value even if he ends up starting right away, and a lot of that has to do with his lack of proven weapons in the passing game. He has a strong arm and is plenty athletic, though, so he’d definitely be someone to watch. Tune in for Friday’s game to get a good idea as to whether or not he’ll be moving closer to the starting gig.
