Titans’ Kenny Britt Suspended For Week 1

Kenny Britt

We’ve been waiting for news on a potential Kenny Britt suspension. It finally came down from the powers that be in the NFL. According to Jim Wyatt via Twitter, the Tennessee Titans star wide receiver will be getting a slap on the wrist via  a one-game suspension to start the 2012 NFL season.

Britt is receiving the suspension following a DUI over the summer, and potentially narrowly escaped a lengthier punishment. Rookie stand out receiver Kendall Wright is expected to start in Britt’s place in week one versus the New England Patriots. Wright has practiced extensively in Britt’s slot in the offense, and has looked sharp in camp and in preseason action.

While Wright could figure prominently in the offense in his first season, Britt is likely to retain a large role once he returns from his one-game “vacation”. Britt was already expected to be limited for the first week or two, regardless of the suspension, after numerous knee surgeries over the off-season. Britt has been recovering from a torn ACL that prematurely ended his 2011 season.

Fantasy Analysis

This is awesome news for Kendall Wright, who is gaining value by the day. With that said, this isn’t actually the worst news in the world for Britt, who was going to get a very light load in his first game back. The one-game lay-off could make him healthier for his debut in week two against the San Diego Chargers. At this point, Britt is still a top-30 fantasy receiver and is still set up to be a quality WR2. He definitely carries risk, though, so be sure to grab his teammate Wright later in your draft as insurance.
