Terrell Owens to Make NFL Return?

terrell owens ifl

Terrell Owens is 38 years old, tore his ACL in his left knee last year, and has been on five teams. He’s also had a history for disrupting locker rooms, told GQ he is “in hell” and is nearly broke, and had a workout last year which attracted zero NFL teams and forced him to go play in the Indoor Football League to prove himself.

Here are some IFL numbers on T.O. He is 41st in receptions, 36th in receiving yards, 31st in yards per game, 44th in average per reception, and 15th in receiving touchdowns. Looking at those numbers, if I’m an NFL GM, why would I consider taking him before the other thirty or so people that are statistically better than him?

T.O. claims that the IFL has made him a better route runner, and I don’t doubt that, but I wouldn’t want him on my team. There just seems to be a lot better players than him out there in the IFL, and in free agency, and in the NFL Draft.

I really can’t see T.O. going to any team in the NFL in the foreseeable future. The only way I can see T.O. going to an NFL team is a couple weeks into the start of the season, when a bunch of injuries have already plagued teams. I honestly can’t say which team he would go to if he makes it back to the NFL, but if I had to guess, it would be the Tennessee Titans. I say this because, around the time of his workout, there had been a rumor that

I could also see the Chiefs, Jaguars, Rams and Seahawks possibly creeping in. I don’t think any of those teams will make a move, but you never know with the NFL. Some teams might look past the facts that I listed, or they just might want to make a silly PR move. I don’t mean to disrespect to T.O., I’ve always enjoyed watching him play, but I’m just stating the facts.

Hey Fernando, I think you are forgetting that TO doesn't play every game. Thus, his numbers will be lower than other receivers in the IFL. I think NFL GM's will understand that as it is fairly simple to see on the stats sheets and read about all over the place. Other than that, I feel like you are only restating what many other writers already have….. I'm not much of a TO fan, as I am a Cowboys fan, but the only thing I feel TO has going against him is his locker room presence and his overall attitude. He has not humility, even in the face of bankruptcy and everyone talking about his past.

CanadaFan7, thanks for the comment. I did know he does not play every game. He has played four games, while many have already played six. However, I did do my research on the stat sheets, and many players who have played as much as he has have a lot better numbers then him. Also, I disagree with the fact that the biggest thing he has going against him is his locker room presence. I believe it is his age.

Fernando…I get your point about stats, but what I think you have to understand, and from what I know from an interview with T.O. himself, that I had with him, "tearing up" the IFL isn't his primary goal. Not tearing up his knee is, so he can be considered for an NFL team. Everyone knows, and if they don't know, they don't know football, he can catch the ball. That is not in question. At his age, it is about route running, it is about the stability of that knee…also if you haven't been on the IFL turf in Allen Texas, where he plays for the Wranglers, it is nowhere near as good as any natural turf, or artificial turf in the NFL. It is VERY HARD, and if his knee can hold up in the IFL, he will be ready for any team in the NFL. Take it from me who saw an open practice yesterday, T.O. can still play. He is in such great shape, I would beg to say, is is in just as good as any WR in the NFL right now. As far as humility CanadaFan7, there is a change in T.O. and his attitude. Remember the players have 45 seconds to celebrate a touchdown in the IFL, he has not used that time for his self promotion to get on ESPN, he says and I quote, "I keep it somewhat professional, and I just try to have a little fun with it…I am happy for the other guys that are able to get into the end zone as well, and if I am not scoring, I am blocking (by the way, the best blocking WR in the NFL bar none!), being a receiver, you don't just catch footballs and score touchdowns. I know I have to do the hard work as well." quote from an interview I had with him.

Sonny Clark, thanks for the comment. You made some great points, but I still stand by more overall argument. I loved your insight on the turf, about the IFL, and how he is playing, but he is still old. He is 38 years old, and hits in the NFL are harder than that of the IFL. I am not saying his knee will not hold up, I hope it does hold up, but this doesn't change his age. I stand by the fact that he could very well be picked up by a team, already a couple weeks into the season when injuries have already came about. I say this because he might very well have some football left in him, and some good one at that, but not more than a year. At his age its hard to make it through a full NFL season, but if given the benefit of the doubt, he could maybe do one season at an above average level.

T.O. can still play ball as good or better than any 2nd tier wide-out, befix team for him would be the texans opposit andrea Johnson—- keith brown –newportnews va. x72 rigger

I’ve been browsing online greater than three hours these days, but I by no means discovered any attention-grabbing article like yours. It’s beautiful worth enough for me. In my view, if all webmasters and bloggers made just right content as you did, the net might be a lot more useful than ever before. “When the heart speaks, the mind finds it indecent to object.” by Milan Kundera.

Hmm it appears like your website ate my very first comment (it was super long) so I guess I’ll just sum it up what I had written and say, I’m thoroughly enjoying your weblog. I as effectively am an aspiring weblog blogger but I’m still new to everything. Do you’ve any points for novice blog writers? I’d undoubtedly appreciate it.
