Week 11 Fantasy Football Surprises

Week 11 is nearly over with, and boy what a week of surprises we have for you. Fantasy football in Week 11 has been quite crazy, and totally unpredictable. There was a lot of scoring by nearly every team that wasn’t playing a game today in Jacksonville.

Washington tried to bully the Cowboys by taking them into overtime, Baltimore and Cincinnati proved that both offenses can put up big points, and the Dolphins are showing that they are ready to start winning some football games.

Here are Week 11′s biggest surprises on Sunday for fantasy football:

10. Roddy White, WR, Atlanta Falcons

I never thought I’d have White in a “surprising” list, but he made it as he’s struggled for much of 2011.

White has just three receiving touchdowns, and recorded just his second 100+ yard game of the season.

White finished with seven receptions for 147 yards and earned fantasy owners around 14 points.

9. Johnny Knox, WR, Chicago Bears

What a disappointment that Knox has been in 2011.

He has scored no more than eight points all season and has averaged just under four per game.

Knox was great against San Diego catching three passes for 97 yards and a touchdown, earning fantasy owners 15 points.

8. Christian Ponder, QB, Minnesota Vikings

Ponder was impressive despite his turnovers on Sunday against the Raiders .

He finished with 211 yards passing two touchdowns, and another 71 rushing yards.

His three interceptions hurt him, but he still earned 17 fantasy points.

7. Mike Williams, WR, Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Williams has been very mediocre in 2011, and had scored just one touchdown before Week 11, while averaging just under five fantasy points.

Williams caught his second touchdown of the season, and recorded seven receptions for 83 yards.

His effort earned 14 fantasy points.

6. Jake Locker, QB, Tennessee Titans

Locker wasn’t supposed to play this season outside of potential garbage time or in an emergency.

However, with Matt Hasselbeck going down with an elbow injury, Locker was called upon to help the Titans come back against Atlanta.

He didn’t do poorly, going 9/19 for 140 yards and two touchdowns in the air.

Locker also had an 11 yard rush, making his point total stick to 14 for EXTREMELY unlikely owners.

5. Jabar Gaffney, WR, Washington Redskins

With Santana Moss, Jabar Gaffney is the #1 receiver in Washington, and a good one he has been lately.

Gaffney saw 10 targets and caught seven of the passes for 115 yards and a touchdown in an overtime loss against Dallas.

Gaffney’s efforts rewarded owners with 17 points.

4. Matt Moore, QB, Miami Dolphins

How about Matt Moore with his second three touchdown game in three weeks?

Moore tortured Buffalo in the air, despite only throwing for 160 yards.

His three touchdowns and zero interceptions rewarded unlikely fantasy owners with 18 points.

3. Rex Grossman, QB, Washington Redskins

Grossman got his starting job back, and did everything he could to help the Redskins win the football game.

He accounted for three total touchdowns (2 pass, 1 rush), and 299 yards of total offense.

Grossman’s efforts rewarded owners with 24 fantasy points.

2. Chris Ogbonnaya, RB, Cleveland Browns

The former Texas running back has looked quite solid in his last two weeks for the Browns.

Filling in for Montario Hardesty and Peyton Hillis, Ogbonnaya rushed 21 times for 115 yards and a rushing touchdown on Sunday against Jacksonville.

Unlikely Ogbonnaya owners were awarded with 18 fantasy points.

1. Kevin Smith, RB, Detroit Lions

The injury riddled Smith was not expected to make an impact often for the Lions. But it doesn’t mean he couldn’t make an impact in at least one game for Detroit.

Smith has missed a ton of time in his first four seasons, consistently being injured and struggling to stay on the field. But he took advantage of his playing time and destroyed the Panthers both on the ground and in the air. Smith ran for 140 yards and two touchdowns on just 16 carries.

But he also caught four passes for 61 yards and another touchdown, and will likely be the top fantasy player overall in Week 11 with a whopping 38 points.
